Earlier this year, when Gud Companies was still a fragile idea, I posted on Reddit hoping to connect with business owners from the entirety of Northeast India and perhaps do stories on them on the website. While the post got mild responses, I was lucky to come across a couple of exciting entrepreneur spirits who were equally excited to share their side of the story. One such person was Ayushmaan Bora, cofounder of XenevaOS. He said that he along with his tech partner Manas Kamal Choudhury are working on building an extended reality (XR)-first operating system. To know more and bring forth their idea to our readers, I sent them a couple of questions for this interview and the responses are published here as it was originally sent.
What is Xeneva?
XenevaOS is an Operating System aimed at modern hardware and technologies such as AR/VR, built completely from scratch with its own kernel.
What is the problem Xeneva is addressing?
We at Team Xeneva believe that India needs its own set of native deep-tech technologies
instead of relying on global giants and what they provide. XenevaOS is a step towards
achieving that feat.
Keeping the regional aspect in mind, we're not limiting ourselves to just that. We're building
XenevaOS while also analyzing global markets and solving problems there as well. We
believe we've found a market gap, specifically in the AR/VR (XR) industry. Team Xeneva plans to enter other industries in the near future as well, which include Automotive Safety &
Robotics.
What are the solutions to these problems?
The solution to our first problem i.e., India relying mostly on global giants - is to start
building native deep tech industries which not only function as regional technologies but also
cater to the global & international markets.
Next, we've also done our fair share of research in the AR/VR (XR) industry. We believe XR
is the next big thing after smartphones, and if we look closely, we'll see that the biggest
players in the industry including Apple, Google and Meta are silently moving towards
creating products for that industry. When looking even closer, we see that one of the reasons
why these products aren't adopted by the masses yet, even though the products exist, is
because the software side of things lacks practicality and utility for the common user. Xeneva
tries to take the early adopter advantage in the industry, and our biggest USP is the fact that
we're not building our technology on top of another - like using an existing kernel or building
it on top of an existing mobile operating system or so. Building everything from bare metal
and from scratch is indeed challenging for us, but at the same time, it allows us to achieve the
best target hardware performance and results, with optimization and adaptability fully in our
own hands.
Who is your ideal customer?
As we at Team Xeneva are primarily working on the software side of things, our ideal
customers are hardware companies willing to manufacture modern technologies, devices and gadgets. Team Xeneva is looking for hardware partners.
What is the market size you are trying to capture?
This question is not the easiest to answer, but we'll try our best. Since XenevaOS aims to
enter the AR/VR market first, we've done some market research about the industry.
The market size for Extended Reality (XR) is currently valued at around 250 billion dollars
as of 2025 and is projected to cross the thousand billion mark in the next 5 years. In the next
five years, XenevaOS aims to capture a fraction of this thousand billion dollar industry.
Since Team Xeneva doesn't plan to be limited just Extended Reality (XR), the market size
that we would potentially capture will also not be limited to just that. However, we haven't
done our calculations for the other industries.
What's the game plan?
Our game plan involves presenting the public beta version of XenevaOS, which is due in a
few months (Q3 2025). With the public beta out in the market, we will simultaneously work
to raise a round of funding and enter partnership deals with hardware giants. With the core
technology fully functional and out in the market, we will then look forward to expanding
and broadening our footprint by entering other industries with careful planning and
execution.
Correct me if I am wrong, but you will have to partner with hardware
manufacturers, or at least procure white-label hardware in bulk and then brand it and
sell it in the market. What is your plan in that regard?
Yes, we're looking to partner with hardware manufacturers in the near future. Our plan is to
showcase our public beta version of the OS to relevant companies and partner with them to
create a final & impactful product for the masses.
Have you secured investments? If yes, how much. If not, how are you going about
that?
No, we have not raised any funds/investments as of yet and are currently running
bootstrapped. We believe in making our product speak for us before we do, so we're actively working on creating a robust version of Xeneva first that does all the talking for us.
This is a product and obviously we want to see it succeed. But what does success look
like- what are the metrics you are tracking (or hope to track)?
Success is a very subjective term. However, we are looking forward to finding hardware
partners for XenevaOS in the near future. Having built the core technology, we also plan to
enter other industries, looking to make a positive impact there as well instead of just a
commercially profitable one.
Team Xeneva would consider itself successful if it makes a positive impact in the market,
making everyone, right from its shareholders to the community using it - happy.
What would be your message for anyone reading this interview?
For anyone and everyone reading this article/watching this interview, Team Xeneva would
like to appeal to the people to start focusing on creating and promoting impactful ideas and
companies for their own greater good. Team Xeneva hopes to one day live in a community
that promotes innovation more than quick profits.
We hope that one day the best brains of our state and country will not need to move to Silicon Valley to take out their best. Let's not focus on just profits and encourage innovation for once.
Xeneva is built for the world, proudly in Assam, India.
